HaGaon HaRav Shmuel Yaakov Borenstein, shlita, to Address Acheinu Parlor Meeting in Flatbush
The Flatbush Community will have the unique and very special opportunity to hear HaGaon HaRav Shmuel Yaakov Borenstein, shlita, as he graces this year’s Third Annual Acheinu Flatbush Parlor Meeting as its guest speaker. The event will be held on Thursday, November 7, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Simcha Applegrad.
Acheinu askanim anticipate a tremendous response for this unique opportunity to personally greet and hear the special divrei chizuk of Rav Borenstein on behalf of the tremendous kiruv activities of Acheinu.
Acheinu, the Kiruv movement to develop B’nei Torah, has succeeded, with great Siyata d’Shmaya, in attaining an astonishing success rate of ensuring that children of all backgrounds become complete Shomrei Torah u’Mitzvos. With a unique system of follow up and accountability, Acheinu has succeeded in enrolling more than 93% of its charges, Israeli public school children, to yeshivos kedoshos. In the past 20 years, Acheinu has made a successful positive impact on more than 10,000 children. Now each year, roughly 1,200-1,500 Israeli children begin the new school year in yeshivos instead of public schools, thanks to the broad range of Acheinu programs and initiatives.
Acheinu, recognizing the children’s need for constant support and chizuk, invests in an entire staff of avreichim to serve as mentors, throughout their yeshiva years and beyond, until they become true bnei Torah, marry and establish Torah homes.
HaGaon HaRav Shmuel Yaakov Borenstein
Rav Shmuel Yaakov Borenstein, the renowned rosh yeshiva of Yeshiva Kiryas Melech in Bnei Brak, is known for his brilliance in Torah and comprehensive shiurim. Rav Borenstein served as a R”M at Yeshiva Nachlas Dovid in Petach Tikvah and then as a rosh yeshiva at Yeshiva Chevron, Geulah for twenty years with HaGaon HaRav Chaim Sarna zt”l. With the founding of Kiryas Melech in Bnei Brak, he was invited to serve as rosh yeshiva.
Rav Borenstein is one of the most prominent talmidim of the Chevroner Yeshiva where he himself learned many years, and of Rav Chaim Shmulevitz zt”l where he was involved in the preparation of Rav Chaim’s seforim, Shaarei Chaim. He was also one of the most prominent talmidim of HaGaon HaRav Yitzchok Hutner zt”l at Yeshivas Beis HaTalmud-Gur Aryeh. Rav Borenstein is the author of several important sefarim including collections of his Shiurim on several masechtos of Shas.
Rav Borenstein will be introduced by Rav Shlomo Cynamon, shlita, Rav of K’hal Bnei Torah and Rosh Kollel of Kollel Dirshu of Flatbush. Rav Cynamon is an erudite talmid chochom and maggid shiur.
Gedolei Yisrael and Acheinu
Rav Borenstein is among the many Gedolei Yisrael who have embraced the special cause of Acheinu. Acheinu’s efforts on behalf of developing Israeli children as Bnei Torah have merited their enthusiastic support in Eretz Yisrael and in our country, as well.
The First Annual Acheinu Flatbush Parlor Meeting in 2011, attracting a very large crowd of over 150 guests, featured the Mashgiach of Lakewood, HaGaon HaRav Matisyahu Solomon, shlita. The Mashgiach has maintained a long relationship with Acheinu, after witnessing Acheinu’s work in Eretz Yisrael firsthand. The Mashgiach noted, “Acheinu is an organization that has developed a unique strategy for kiruv– a strategy that reaps a phenomenal success rate translating into some 93% of its charges becoming and remaining Shomrei Torah U’Mitzvos.
Last year at the Second Annual Acheinu Parlor Meeting, HaGaon Harav Berel Povarsky shlita, the venerated Rosh Yeshiva of Ponevezh, was the featured speaker of the evening . Rav Povarsky is one of the most enthusiastic supporters of Acheinu and has closely followed and encouraged Acheinu’s accountable Kiruv Rechokim efforts.
Acheinu has had the enthusiastic endorsement and involvement of Gedolei Yisrael. A true watershed in the history of kiruv rechokim in Eretz Yisrael was when HaRav HaGaon Rav Michel Yehuda Lefkowitz, zt”l, agreed to serve as Nasi of Acheinu.
Rav Michel Yehuda, zt”l, offered constant guidance on the most difficult, complex questions of Kiruv She’eilos. Despite his tremendous workload, he always had time for the boys embarking on their first steps in Yiddishkeit or already in yeshivos coming to be tested or to seek advice. He embraced them, exuding a love that penetrated their hearts and souls. Rav Michel Yehuda said that bringing young people back to lives of Torah has the power to bring Moshiach closer. Rav Michel Yehuda gave his special blessing to the supporters of Acheinu’s work that, “since you are educating other children to Torah, you will see your children build batim tovim in Am Yisrael.”
The Flatbush Acheinu Parlor Meeting
Because of Acheinu’s truly amazing work and formidable accomplishments in kiruv, it has attracted a significant local reception committee of Flatbush community leaders and askanim dedicated to Acheinu’s mission and increased success.
The Reception Committee members (in formation) are: Rav Dovid Morgenstern, Chairman, Simcha Applegrad, Chaskel Bennett, Efroim Fasten, Shulky Greenwald, Menachem Jakubovic, Menachem Katz, Yitzy Leshintsky, Menachem Lipman, Yanky Miller, Moshe Muller, Mendy Strauss, Levi Zagelbaum and Rav Gedaliah Zlotowitz.
They have encouraged their friends to avail themselves of the opportunity to hear Rav Shmuel Yaakov Borenstein and be inspired by his words of chizuk and by Acheinu’s story.
The Third Annual Acheinu Flatbush Parlor Meeting, with HaGaon HaRav Shmuel Yaakov Borenstein shlita, as its special guest speaker, will take place on Thursday, November 7, at 8:00 PM at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Simcha Applegrad, 1266 East 32nd Street (between Aves. L and M). The event on behalf of Acheinu, featuring a delicious fleishig hot buffet, promises to be engaging and enjoyable. This will be the third consecutive year that Mr. and Mrs. Simcha Applegrad will be hosting the Flatbush Acheinu Parlor meeting.
Acheinu urges the community to attend and participate enthusiastically in this very special Acheinu event, dedicated to bringing Hashem’s children back to our Father in Heaven. 100% of your contribution will go directly to Israel to help an Acheinu child.
